Floral Portrait Photo Shoot | New Beginnings
We go through stages of life that feel like adventures or new beginnings; each chapter slightly different than the one before. As we move through our story there are times we wish to highlight and remember forever. That incredible feeling when you know that you are powerful and capable of going after the things you love and want to accomplish. As a photographer, I get to capture some of these magical moments for my clients and offer a creative bookmark in the story of their life.
I had the pleasure of working with a client who wanted to capture the beauty of moving past a tough time and blooming into a new and gentler stage. The idea for the shoot was to shape the setting around her and what she wished to convey creatively. I pictured the Amazon forest and Amazonian strength and brought in greenery to the studio after a consultation. The green leaves were included to represent a soft yet firm fresh start and fog was added to some images to solidify the forest setting by alluring to the humidity in rainforests.
These particular leaves have a soft silky look to them that encompass the delicacy and tenderness in which we care for others and ourselves and were placed upwards in the studio to represent growth. The florist, Iryna Shulzhenko, added a floral pattern to the client’s skin as well as created a gorgeous headpiece to match and show strength and fierceness. While the background was created to represent a tree-crowded environment, the designs the clients wore were of softer and more colorful nature. The contrast was used as a means to convey the friendship between strength and gentleness. These are some of the ways in which the background can paint a picture and help capture a story.
Yet while design and setting can set a pictures’ tone, it is the posing that really brings it all together. I guided my client into different poses that were suited for what she was looking to accomplish with this shoot. For closer shots such as headshots, it is all in the facial expression. My clients’ eyes are staring firmly into the camera with lips partially parted but not quite shaped into a smile. This type of expression shows strength and confidence, while a soft smile in the same pose and softer eyes can accomplish happiness and tenderness. For this photo session we choose to capture both as we as individuals are both these things.
My client also brought her two daughters for the shoot to take unique family photos in a forest-like setting. But no matter what one chooses to capture or what story to tell, it is a beautiful moment seeing that creativity come together in a series of photographs and/or printed on a large Acrylic print. These are part of the services I offer at my studio, where each chapter is to be celebrated.
