Why Do Men Love Boudoir?

The term “boudoir” originated from the French word describing a woman’s private dressing room, now the term is mostly used to describe intimate photography both in lingerie or implied. In today’s age boudoir has become so popular and common that one can see it represented on a daily basis.

Whether on social media websites, stores, commercials, and even Time Square billboards. Big brands like Victoria Secret can be found at almost every mall, their stores featuring images of models in the brands famous lingerie pieces and sleepwear. Their yearly runway show one of the most watched runway shows in America by both women and men. But why the fascination? In truth it’s the intimacy of the captured moment, a seek peak into a woman’s feminine yet sensual side that is getting all the attention.

All throughout history the idea of nudity and what we consider “boudoir” today has been displayed as a form of art. Think back to Greek sculptures of the naked or implied nude bodies. Victorian paintings carry the same trait, often displaying bodies in a relaxed pose where women lay in their chambers or private bedrooms.

But where do men fall into this? As mentioned, the female body has always been considered a form of art, and something about the intimacy of the space where she can be more sensual also allures to purity. This is one of the reasons why men love seeing their wife or partner in boudoir images, making boudoir photography rather popular. It is the capture of female sensuality and the idea of a woman being sensual that makes the images a desired work of art.

On a more visual note, boudoir shows off the female body and natural curves. Whether the body is nude or wearing lingerie, the concept is the same. Modern intimate designs have included the garner belts as part of lingerie sets with the purpose of highlighting the small of the waist in contrast to the wider hips. This gives the body an hourglass shape. When it comes to implied images the female body is seen in its most natural state and portrays the idea that nothing is concealed.

This visually represents beauty in its most honest and pure form which men are drawn to. It is, obviously, also related to sex. Yet rather than the act itself, is more about the moment before. Insinuating without actually giving. In terms of boudoir photography, the posing often shows off playful yet sensual poses that highlights the female beauty. As people are drawn to works of art, so are men drawn to boudoir images.
