Weddings are a moment in time where the whole world seems to stop as two souls celebrate their love, their union, and the adventures to come. As a wedding photographer I get to capture the beauty of such moments and for a little while witness the happiness and glow between two people whose stories are just beginning.

This past April I had the chance to capture such moments for Monique and Antonio for their destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico. Monique was one of my first clients in North Carolina and I was beyond excited that she picked me to do her wedding. Her and her family were always welcoming and treated my second shooter and I like welcomed guests. Making me feel like part of the family as I photographed multiple family occasions for her. The wedding, a special moment in time in which her and Antonio’s story can be told with a glance, a smile, a kiss.

Their story started back in 2008 Bamberg, Germany when Monique pulled up to Burger King with her purple Clown car, as Antonio likes to call it. Antonio was stationed in the Army at the time and had given his friend a ride to meet Monique and some friends. As she stepped out of her car, their eyes locked and they both felt an instant spark.

Throughout the years they’d run into each other randomly, becoming friends. For Monique felt as if the universe was always finding a way to bring her and Antonio back together. However, although they both knew there was something special there, it definitely took a few years and some distance to see that they belonged together. Monique recalls it taking patience and love to get to where they are today, yet she and Antonio couldn’t be happier. As in the end they found that they balanced each other out in all the right ways.

Cancun, for Monique and Antonio, was one of the easiest decisions when it came to wedding planning. It was in Cancun where Antonio had proposed to her, thus marking the gorgeous city as a landmark of their love story. Though their wedding was delayed due to covid, they found a way to make the wait worth it and still be able to celebrate their love and exchange their vows.

Capturing their story in such a beautiful landscape was a gift within itself. The sky was a gorgeous palette of color as the sun was setting behind them. These images are to my clients a captured moment in time that they’ll forever cherish, and for that I love the work I do. For Monique some days feel like her and Antonio have just met and other days it feels like they’ve known each other all of their lives. She knows it in her heart that she found the right person to go through life with.
